After much anticipation, the official shortlist for MARKETING-INTERACTIVE’s PR Awards 2024 has finally been unveiled. Now in its 11th year, this prestigious competition continues to spotlight the finest brands and agencies in the PR and communications industry across Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Oceania. These remarkable entities have demonstrated exceptional brilliance, innovation, and resilience in navigating the challenges of the past year.

Responding to market demands from the previous editions, the awards have expanded to 40 categories, including the latest addition of "Best Use of AI in a PR Campaign". The highest accolade, the "PR Awards Overall Champion", awaits the agency and brand that have garnered the most gold, silver, and bronze trophies across all categories.

A distinguished panel of 42 accomplished client-side marketing professionals diligently evaluated the entries in each category to ensure a fair and rigorous selection process. Their expertise guarantees that only the most deserving candidates receive recognition for their outstanding contributions to the industry.

As a judge of the PR Awards 2024, Umesh Nair, director of communications & CSR, East Asia & Singapore Malaysia, Alstom, emphasised that he was “impressed by the calibre of entries. It was evident that those submissions which stood out did so not just because of their creative execution but, more importantly, because they were rooted in strong, insightful thinking. They demonstrated a deep understanding of their audience and market, establishing a clear, tangible link between the campaign's creativity and its significant impact on the business.”

Adding on, Nisar Keshvani, senior associate director (strategic communications), of the National University of Singapore commented that “the role of the communicator has significantly evolved - from message bearer to being the hub of organisations. Themes and trends have shifted towards fostering work culture, climate change, bringing high value to stakeholders. Judges had the pleasure of watching the bar raised every cycle, and this round was no different. The toughest challenge was, narrowing down the best from the best.”

Prerna Suri, vice president, communications, for Asia and the Middle East, of Sony Music Entertainment also highlighted that she was “impressed by the creativity and strength of the entries across all categories". "What truly resonated with me were the PR Awards, showcasing exemplary campaigns across diverse industries – a testament to the power and dynamism of the PR landscape. Judging these entries wasn't just an honour, it was a journey through the best the region has to offer," Suri added

Judges also noticed that the out-of-the-box strategies presented was not only innovative but also demonstrated a keen understanding of the dynamic landscape. "The meticulous implementation, coupled with the resulting impact, underscored the excellence of their approach. Witnessing the transformative power of their initiatives was genuinely inspiring. Overall, it was a truly marvellous experience evaluating these outstanding entries that not only pushed the boundaries of creativity but also set a commendable standard for strategic brilliance in the public relations industry," Yudith Dwi Astuti, director of marketing communications, of The Westin Jakarta, said.

Lastly, Marta Grutka, director, PR and communications, Asia, of Wyndham Destinations Asia Pacific commended the entries and said that it “was especially gratifying to see the work from teams that do not have big agencies or budgets to play with. I personally found their campaigns to be the most authentic, evergreen and meaningful, and proves that there is plenty of homegrown talent here!”
