Why Wavemaker's ex-president launched a post-digital agency

Gordan Domlija, who was previously Wavemaker's president, has launched a new agency in Singapore called Re:Motive Media, according to Domlija when MARKETING-INTERATIVE reached out.

Re:Motive is the "world's first post-digital agency." The agency aims to move beyond the hype of digital and combines advanced data analytics with real human insights. The agency also optimises short-term tactics while measuring long-term brand effect too.

"We describe ourselves as a post-digital agency, because we are designed to go beyond the hype and false prophecies of the latest shiny new thing. We have the knowledge and experience to combine advanced data analytics with real human insight, and make a difference to our clients’ business," said Domlija in a conversation with MARKETING-INTERACTIVE.

"The industry is changing, and there is plenty of room in the market for an agency that does things a little differently. Or an agency that ‘makes different happen’, as we like to say," he added.

The services Re:Motive provides includes analysing campaign and business data to identify possible growth opportunities, sustainable solutions for businesses, activations and measuring brand metrics progress on sustainability, brand perception, intent, customer experience and more.

Motive was a pioneering strategic media agency, born out of BBH, founded by Sir John Hegarty, explained Domlija. "It is a brand now lost in time due to acquisition and consolidation, but those who worked with them know the value a media agency can bring when it is founded on strong strategic principles."

The principles are timeless, building effective communication and channel plans fully aligned to brand and business goals, working seamlessly with creative agencies and marketing teams to produce exceptional strategy and
execution, he added.

At Re:Motive Media, Domlija serves as founder and managing partner of Southeast Asia. Also leading Re:Motive are Alex Lawton as global CEO and Koen Smeets as global strategy director.

The team is rounded out by Luke Westland as growth director, Dory Casas as sustainability and regeneration coordinator and Jose Luis Quiros as live experience director.

"Personally, when I considered launching a new agency, the most important elements for me are always going to be values and culture. I have been lucky enough to work within some amazing cultures, that have nurtured and
encouraged people, and this has led to innovation, success and importantly,
fun. I have also worked in some stifling cultures, where people are scared to voice an opinion, where conformity suffocates ideas," said Domlija.

Prior to starting Re:Motive, Domlija was the president of Wavemaker for over five years and the CEO of MEC in China. He was also chief strategy officer (CSO) for MediaCom Shanghai from January 2014 to October 2015. As CSO, he was responsible for strategic services, agency capability, talent management and business performance in China.

"We are only a humble start up, launching our business into a trillion-dollar industry dominated by billion-dollar companies," said Domlija.

"But we can clearly differentiate ourselves by being an owner run business and fully independent, not just of holding groups and platforms, but of investors, shareholders and clients who dictate policy and decision making. We are specialised in what we do - effective strategy and planning - and we collaborate brilliantly with others," he added.
